Dominate Twitter In 7 Simple Steps

In 2022, I added 172,204 followers and did $45k/month on the platform.
But perhaps one of my favorite parts of the platform, is how it allows regular people to quickly build an audience and start monetizing their skills.
I interact with creators every day that have small followings, but are pulling in thousands of dollars each month.

And I'll show you exactly how you can crush it.

Now, let's get back to my system for dominating Twitter.
#1 - Optimize Your Profile
Your profile is your digital storefront.
Just as a compelling storefront lures customers into a physical market, an optimized Twitter profile draws followers to your content.
With limited surface area, maximizing every square inch of your profile is crucial.
Use your bio to showcase notable accomplishments, credentials, or experiences that set you apart from the rest.
These are feathers in your cap, don't be shy about showing them off.
You also want to articulate the unique value you bring to your followers.
Give them an idea of what they’ll “get out of” following you.
Your header image is like a built-in billboard for your profile.
It's an opportunity for a clear and captivating call-to-action (CTA).
Are you promoting a new eBook, an upcoming webinar, or your latest blog post?
Ensure it’s visually engaging and sends a clear message about your value proposition.
Lastly, think outside the box with your location tag.
Instead of just the city or country where you reside, turn it into a CTA.
This space could link to your latest project, promote an event, or direct followers to your website.
#2 - Crafting Compelling Content
Twitter, at its core, is a content platform.
Your growth hinges on your ability to consistently produce high-quality, engaging content.
To come up with content ideas, start by looking back at your most popular tweets over the past year.
This is a great starting place for developing new content you know your audience will enjoy.
Next, take some time to reflect on your own life over the past couple of years.
Ask yourself these questions:
What do people always ask for my help with?
What were my most powerful experiences?
What skills did I pick up at work?
What lessons did I learn?
What did I love reading about?
This will give you plenty of content ideas.
But coming up with the ideas is just part of the process...
The most powerful aspect of writing compelling content is storytelling.
People connect with stories on an emotional level, making them more engaged and receptive to your message.
Try and tie your content back to a relatable story whenever possible. It could be a personal experience, an anecdote, or a success story.
The key is to make it authentic and engaging.
For content remixing, use a tool like ChatGPT to generate fresh content ideas based on your input. It's like having a digital brainstorming buddy at your disposal.
Remember, consistency is key on Twitter.
Regularly posting high-quality content keeps you at the forefront of your followers' minds and feeds.
That's where scheduling tools like Hypefury come in handy.

#3 - Harness the Power of Threads
Over the past six months, I've consistently posted four threads per week.
The result?
Each thread garners around 3k likes and 900k tweet views, translating into as many as 200 newsletter conversions.
This seemingly simple system has the potential to supercharge your follower growth.
Here are a few thread-writing tips to consider...
First, include numbers in your headline. It gives a snapshot of the tangible value followers can expect, and everyone loves value they can measure.
Second, showcase credibility - perhaps by mentioning any relevant qualifications, experiences, or past successes.
Lastly, pack your thread with actionable tips.
The internet is full of fluff, stand out by offering followers advice they can apply immediately.

#4 - Building Relationships
One common misconception about Twitter growth is that it is solely about broadcasting your content.
Twitter is a two-way street.
Building relationships and engaging with others are equally, if not more, important.
Engaging with others' content doesn't just show goodwill; it also amplifies your visibility.
Comment on tweets that resonate with you, retweet insightful content, and don't hesitate to initiate conversations.
These actions put you on the radar of other users, increasing the likelihood of gaining new followers.
Also, never underestimate the power of direct messages (DMs).
They provide an intimate channel for deeper conversations, relationship-building, and networking opportunities.
After taking a couple weeks to regularly comment on someone's tweets, send them a DM.
Offer value, compliment their work, or share insights to kickstart the conversation.
But remember, authenticity is key - people can smell a sales pitch a mile away.

#5 - Own Your Audience
Your audience on Twitter, or any social media platform for that matter, is a rented one.

By building an email list.
Emails give you direct access to your audience, allowing you to nurture relationships, provide value, and promote your products or services on your own terms.

LinkedIn and Instagram, for instance, offer unique opportunities for content repurposing and audience growth.
You can repurpose your viral Twitter threads into LinkedIn posts to engage your professional network and grow your audience.
Instagram, on the other hand, is highly visual and dynamic, making it a perfect platform for transforming your threads into compelling carousels.
Each slide can be a tweet, telling a story as users swipe through.

#7 - Review Your Data
Peter Sondergaard once said, "Information is the oil of the 21st century, and analytics is the combustion engine."
Tracking and interpreting the right metrics can help you fine-tune your Twitter growth strategy.

These are indicators of the resonance and shareability of your content.
The more your content is shared, the wider your reach.
Next, monitor the likes-to-replies ratio.
A high ratio can indicate that your content is likable but doesn't necessarily spark engagement or conversation.
You want to aim for a healthy balance between the two.
Finally, keep an eye on the engagement rate.
This metric measures the level of interaction with your content relative to your follower count.
It provides a more nuanced understanding of your performance, as it takes the size of your audience into account.
As you get an idea of what's working well, double down and do more of it.
