6 Hacks to Save You 4 Hours a Day

The Soulful Entrepreneur #004

If you're anything like me you're always looking for an edge. A better way of doing things.

What if I told you there were 6 simple hacks I use that help me get back 4 hours of my day?

It sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. These tools have shaved off time and given me back weeks of my life.

I use them to have more fun, focus, freedom, and enjoyment in life.

Streaks App

Time saved: 40 minutes a day

Streaks changed my life. I used it to stop smoking weed, stop drinking, and get fit (amongst many other positive habits). It allows me to gamify the good habits I want to instill in my life.

For example, when I was trying to stop drinking I loaded "No drinking" as a habit in Streaks.

From there I aimed to build up a streak of 30 days.

Then 60 days.

Then 90 days.

And so on. I am now 6 months sober.

It's super fun. Once you start a streak you don't want to break it. Whenever I complete a positive habit I check it off and get a little dopamine rush.

My current daily streaks include:

  • Meditate

  • Read

  • Stretch/yoga

  • Morning pages

  • Cold bath

  • Lift

  • Eat a salad (gotta get those greens!)

  • Fast until 2pm

  • No bread

  • No food after 7pm

  • No sugar/dairy

  • Walk 10,000 steps

I strongly recommend using this. Load up 12 habits you want to implement in your life and get after it.

Let me know how you like it, take a screenshot, and share your streaks with me on Twitter! I love hearing from you.

TextExpander

Time saved: 30 minutes a day

TextExpander has saved me countless hours. I use it to expand text snippets that I find myself typing over and over again.

It makes me a more effective salesperson, marketer, and overall entrepreneur.

Save those annoying scripts you always use:

  • I save my phone number using “;ph” and it outputs 647-673-0700

  • I save my email using “;em” and it outputs [email protected]

  • I save a common intro script using “;int” and it outputs “My name is Matt and I run Herb - the world’s largest community in the cannabis industry. I’d love to chat with you and see how we can collaborate. Herb has over 14 million consumers in our community and we push 3 billion video views a year. What date/time/number is best to reach you at and I'll send a calendar invite. Thanks.”

I save tons of things like my address, commonly used DMs, recruitment scripts, and my Calendly link to easily book meetings.

Text Replacement in Your iPhone

Time saved: 30 minutes a day

You can also do this on your iPhone by going to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Text Replacement.

I save all the text snippets that I use in TextExpander (see above) in Text Replacement on my iPhone. It saves me the annoyance of having to type out commonly used phrases, addresses, and text.

Trust me. It's a game-changer and well worth setting up.

Yesware

Time saved: 30 minutes a day

Yesware helps me save email templates in Gmail. From common recruitment outreach emails, sales emails, quarterly meeting templates, and more.

For example, every 3 months our leadership team at Herb holds a Quarterly Traction Meeting to get organized for the next 90 days. Instead of writing out the entire agenda, I have the previous quarterly agenda saved as a template and simply give it a little love each time versus spending 20 minutes typing up a fresh new email.

Freedom App

Time saved: 2 hours a day

Freedom blocks websites and apps on your phone and computer that distract you so that you can stay focused on the task at hand.

You'd be shocked at how much time you spend on these apps. Take a look at Screen Time on your iPhone.

I block all social media and news websites from 5am to 8pm daily.

Here is my blocklist:

  • Instagram

  • Facebook

  • News

  • Uber Eats

  • TikTok

  • Netflix

BetterSnapTool

Time saved: 20 minutes a day

BetterSnapTool allows you to quickly position windows by either dragging them to the side or bottom of the screen or by using pre-defined shortcuts.

I use this tool to easily split my screen in half. For example, on the left side of my desktop screen, I can have a Google Doc open and an email open on the right side of my screen to easily type my thoughts.

It makes me a lot faster on my computer.

That's it for now.
