A Step-By-Step Guide For Monetizing Your Audience

Level Up Your Personal Brand FAST With This Proven System For Growth

Humans love to overcomplicate things.

I'm not sure if it's out of a desire to make ourselves feel important or accomplished...

But after 14+ years of being a founder...

I've come to realize that we're often our own biggest bottlenecks.

Albert Einstein once said - "Genius is making complex ideas simple, not making simple ideas complex."

And so often I speak with founders who want to make an extra $15k or $20k a month...

But their plan is so complicated it'll take them forever to reach their goal.

Contrary to what you may have been told, monetizing your following isn't this elusive concept that's only been figured out by "the elite."

Essentially it comes down to two things.

  • Having an audience

  • Having something to sell them

In today's newsletter I'm going to share with you my system for monetizing your brand.

Now I will be upfront with you and say, just because it's simple, doesn't mean that it doesn't require hard work.

However, depending on where you are on your founder's journey, you might find you already have a lot of "untapped potential" that's available to you almost instantly.

And regardless of where you may be, I'm confident that if you apply this system you'll see a massive boost in your revenue in as little as 90 days.

Now, let's get back to my system for monetizing your brand.

Part #1 - Audience

Build Your Audience

One of the most common mistakes I see founders make is using a "spray and pray" method when trying to build an audience.

Not only does this method make it highly unlikely you'll actually build a following...

It's possible you could build a following of the wrong people.

We're not just trying to build a following for the sake of numbers...

We want qualified people in our audience that can actually take advantage of what we sell.

To dial in on the people you want to attract, use this formula:

Who Can You Help? + Who Cares? + Who Can Buy? = Ideal Audience Member

#1 - Who Can You Help?

There are 7.8 billion people on the planet. You can’t help all of them. The first step in determining your ideal audience member is to nail down who can actually benefit from the product you offer.

#2 - Who Cares?

You don’t want to have to persuade or convince people with your content. We want them to already be somewhat (or very) passionate about what you do.

Passion leads to a committed following, and will help generate hype around what you do and cultivate more organic growth and virality in the long run.

#3 - Who Can Buy?

At the end of the day, it’s not enough to have passionate followers...

You also have to have an audience that can afford to regularly purchase from you.

One million followers doesn’t mean much if no one will ever buy from you.

Here are the target audiences for two of my brands:

 Execute Your Content Creation System

Now that you've figured out your ideal audience member, it's time to get to work and start attracting those people.

How are you going to do that?

Content

Content is perhaps the most powerful way to build an audience for two reasons.

First, it operates as a magnet to draw in your ideal audience

Like is attracted to like.

As you put out content geared specifically for your ideal customer...

People who resonate with what you share will start to follow along.

Second, it operates as a round-the-clock salesperson for your brand

Once you post something online, people can engage with it anytime.

Even better, they can share it, which gets you in front of even more relevant eyeballs.

Long-term your goal is to be omnipresent online, however, you don't want to start out on 13 different channels.

Start with 2 platforms, and develop a content strategy to crush them first.

I recommend you pick 4 different types of content categories you'll talk about, and make those pillars for your brand.

Here are my content categories for Founder OS:

Building an audience takes work and consistency.

However, these are the same steps I took to grow my audience to over 850k in a year, so they will work.

You just have to be willing to show up every day.

Part 2 - Offer

Creating Your Offer

Now this might come as a surprise, but I think you can start monetizing your audience a lot earlier than most realize.

Because depending on the price point of your product, you may only need a handful of people to buy for you to hit your initial goals. (I'll dive into the numbers in a second.)

Or if you have a low-ticket product that's an easy yes, people might take you up on it without knowing much about you IF the product solves a problem they have.

And in both of those cases you don't need a large following.

In fact, selling something earlier could actually help your growth because it gets people talking about you more.

Having said that, let's dive into creating your product or services.

The ideal offer is made up of the intersection of your abilities/experiences and the problems or desires your audience has.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are their biggest goals or aspirations?

  • Which of these desires aligns with your own passions and expertise (your Ikigai)?

One of the reasons I'm so big on content is that it gives you a unique insight into what your audience resonates with and the underlying needs or desires they have.

If you've been regularly posting, odds are you have a treasure trove of information readily available to you.

 Structuring Your Offer

I think the first offer you create should be determined by your experience and skill set.

For instance, when I started building my personal brand, the first thing I did was offer consulting.

I had already built 3 multi-million dollar businesses, one of which I exited for 8-figures.

So it was easy for me to package up consulting services and sell them because people wanted access to the experience and insight I had.

I know of other founders growing their personal brands who started with offers between $27-$150.

These still provide a lot of value but are lower risk from the the buyer's perspective.

Also, it's extremely easy to overdeliver at these price points which get's people talking and can lead to going viral like we saw with Hormozi's $.99 book.

Ultimately I recommend building out a suite of offers that accommodate different budgets and needs.

However we're looking for quick wins right now, so as much as possible try and sell offers as close to $2k as you can.

And here's why...

Let's say you're super active on your 2 social media platforms like I recommended, and you apply everything I've shared here and in past newsletters about growing your online presence...

After around 2-4 weeks of regularly posting you'll likely start growing your following at at least 100 new followers a week.

And let's say that you do this for 13 weeks (roughly 3 months)...

That means you should have a minimum of 900-1300 followers.

Although it will likely be higher because of how exponential growth happens.

So if we take the median number of 1100 new followers, here's how many people you need close to hit $20k in new revenue:

  • 4 people @ $5k

  • 6 people @ $3.5

  • 10 people @ $2k

  • 15 people @$1.34k

  • 20 people @ $1k

Even if you sell just a $1k offer...

You only have to close 1.8% of your new audience to hit that number.

Now, if you're wondering how you can create a "high-ticket offer" if you don't have a lot of experience...

Instead of trying to sell your expertise in the form of consulting or coaching...

Sell your expertise in the form of services that have been packaged up into "high-ticket offers."

If you're a copywriter, you can "bundle" your services like writing emails or LinkedIn posts into an offer worth $2k.

Iterate & Scale

Now here's where it get's really fun.

After you've gone through your first quarter or so of building your audience and promoting your offer, you'll end up with a lot of feedback around what works and what doesn't.

You can now take this feedback and essentially add fuel to the fire of everything you're currently doing.

And you can double your revenue in half the time.

How?

First, your audience will continue to grow exponentially.

Especially as you identify the type of content, hooks and formats that work well with your ideal customer.

Additionally, as you hone your offer and start getting results and testimonials, you can double or even triple the price.

At the same time, you can funnel a lot of your new clients into some sort of membership-style offer where they pay you every month.

And with all the time you're spending speaking with clients, you'll start to identify key challenges that seem to be more universal.

This insight will allow you to create a course or workshop that solves those challenges, giving you yet another income stream.

This means that within just a few months of promoting 1 offer - you now have 3 separate offers you can promote to an even larger and more engaged audience.

There you have it, my system for monetizing your personal brand.

I hope you find it helpful.
